Laterpress AI provides pre-made prompts to help with story writing and editing. Users can also create custom tools. To access these features, ensure the dropdown menu displays “Display all” rather than “Display text only.”
Editing Story Tools
When text is highlighted in the editor, the AI skills button appears on the left side. The AI processes only the selected text.
After clicking the AI Tools button, a list of editing options becomes available. Each tool includes a name and description of its function.
Available editing tools include:
- Thesaurus functionality that defines words and suggests alternatives
- Text scanning for tense inconsistencies
- Paragraph expansion or condensation
- Sentence or paragraph rephrasing
- Chapter-wide analysis for plot holes and logical inconsistencies
Confirming Output
Once a tool is selected, a window displays AI-generated text with three options:
- Replace: Substitutes the highlighted text with the generated version, which can then be manually edited
- Re-generate: Produces alternative results
- Cancel: Closes the window without adding text
Important: Your account is charged with each skill use, even if you decide not to use the output results and cancel out.
Writing Story Tools
When the text editor shows “Show Outline,” starting a new paragraph displays “Press space bar for Story Tools.”
Pressing the spacebar reveals available draft tools — both Laterpress-provided and custom user-created tools. Options for adding scene cards or freeform instructions are always accessible.
Some tools require completed beats and scenes to function. Grayed-out tools display help text explaining missing information.
